FAQs

Why should I join AWB?
With every new performance and workshop, our actors in AWB strengthen their self esteem and build confidence in their abilities. A bonus is the development of new friendships and personal bonds.

How old does one have to be to participate?
In order to participate, one must fall in the age range of 11 to 30 years old and have physical disabilities. AWB Jr. is a new program for children with disabilities ages 4 through 11.

Do you have to have experience in acting?
No. But you have to be willing to learn and try new things.

Can you participate if you are in a wheelchair?
Yes. Definitely! The program can accommodate all physical disabilities.

Where does it take place?
The workshops are held at the Episcopal Academy in Devon, PA, one Sunday each month. Performances, and the fall four-day intensive workshop, are held at Saint Joseph's University.

Who conducts the acting workshops?
Trained professionals in the acting education field conduct the workshops and direct the performances.

What is the level of commitment required, and what are the expectations of the participants?
Participants are expected to attend the four-hour, monthly workshops. Leading up to the final performance in September, AWB holds a four-day intensive workshop that actors must attend. The actors are expected to always give their best efforts, and be diligent in memorizing their lines and responsibilities on stage.

Does AWB sponsor any other programs aside from acting?
Yes. AWB provides social activities on an on-going basis. From trips to local theaters for a behind the scenes tour, to seeing a Broadway show, to skiing in the Poconos, anything is possible!

What is the cost to participate?
Thanks to the generous support of our sponsors, there is no cost to participate in AWB.
